Kayaking is the process by which a kayak will be used to move through rivers or lakes. The kayak is a small boat that is human powered. A special paddle is used to push it forward, and this boat was first invented by the Inuit and Aleut hunters in the colder regions of North America.
A contemporary kayak can come in a wide variety of different styles, and kayaking is a sport which is enjoyed by many people. Research has indicated that the kayak has existed for at least 4,000 years.
The term creeking is used to describe kayaking in difficult rivers. People who practice creeking can expect to run into slides, waterfalls, and ledges. Slalom is another form of kayaking in which racers will try to get to the bottom of the specific part of a river. Not only must they move quickly, they must also move around gates, and these are poles that have been set up at certain points in the river. Most Slalom races will have over 20 gates on a single course, and they must be properly navigated.
Playboating is another variation which places an emphasis on the artistic side of kayaking instead of the speed. With this style, the participants will generally remain in one portion of the river, and will seek to move from one point to another. However, they will need to work against the power of the river in order to achieve this. Kayaking is a sport that is popular in places that have strong river flow, so care must be taken when participating.

Whitewater Racing is a professional competition in which racers will attempt to use kayaks to outrace each other.

Remote planes are one of the fastest-growing hobbies around, not to mention one of the most fun. You can buy a kit (or even cut wood yourself), build a plane, and then use your remote control to fly your creation around in open spaces.
So how do remote-controlled planes work? Basically, the controller you hold sends radio waves through the air to the plane, telling it what to do. The receivers on the plane then carry out your actions to move the wings and other parts, just like the controls on a real plane send signals to mechanically move the parts – after all, it would be almost impossible for a pilot to move a plane without mechanical assistance.
Remote-controlled planes have gained popularity in recent years as their technology has advanced in leaps and bounds. A decade ago, for example, people were still using fuels like petrol to make their planes go, but today technology has moved to the point where model planes can fly using only electricity.
If you want to fly a remote plane yourself, the best way to do it is to buy a kit – they don’t cost that much. Generally, you will get a collection of parts made out of balsa wood (used because it is so light), together with instructions for building the plane. However, the kit will not include all the tools you need, which can include saws (if the wood hasn’t already been cut) and various kinds of glue.
Unfortunately, building planes this way can be very difficult and time-consuming, even when you buy a kit that is supposed to be easy to build. Because what you’re making is basically a scale model of a plane that has to work in the exact same way, it doesn’t take much for it not to fly at all. Errors that wouldn’t matter when building most other DIY projects can cause your plane to crash on its first flight, destroying hours of work.
While you could just go out and buy a ‘ready to fly’ plane, many people believe that takes a lot of the fun out of remote-controlled planes as a hobby. If you’re careful when you build your plane and follow the instructions to the letter, it should work just fine. Good luck!

Photographing Your Pet

Photographing your pet can be an incredibly rewarding experience. Done well, it will allow you to immortalize Fluffy the cat or Spot the dog - that significant member of your family - the pet that shared your food, chewed your shoes, and brought your slippers. In fact, the act of seriously photographing your pet will bring you both closer because the process opens you to noticing the small, wonderful things that you might have missed before - the way he wags his tail, etc.
As with anything, it's best to proceed with a goal in mind so you know where to start. What are you trying to accomplish? Are you trying to capture your pet's playful side? Are you trying to set up a funny
photo using a prop such as a birthday hat? Is this an interactive portrait between your pet and your child? Sit down and put on paper your goal, because it will help you in preparing properly. Nothing is worse than spending an hour going to your favorite location with equipment in hand and realizing your forgot a favorite toy - do your self a favor, do not skip this step.
Now that you have decided on your goal, it's time to decide the proper setting. Indoors vs. outdoors. Near the fireplace with an open fire in the background, or in a studio. At the beach or in the woods. As you think about the location, think about how your pet will respond to the surroundings. If you decide the public park is the perfect place, you must think about your pet's resistance to distractions. Is he/she able to resist running after another animal or person? The more you know your pet and see things through his/her eyes, the better off you will be.
Now you are at the critical preparation stage. You've set your goal, you've decided on the appropriate setting - now try to anticipate all that can (and probably will) go wrong. The following tips will help reduce the chance of things getting out of hand.
On Location - Whew, you've made to shooting location - congratulations. Hopefully, you've brought everything you are going to need, right? Right! Now, it's time for setup. Be organized, get everything laid out in a logical fashion. The last thing you want to be doing is fiddling around with equipment when you need to be shooting pictures - an animal has a zero attention span and you have got to be ready to snap that picture when the moment is there.
How is you animal's demeanor? Is he/she super wound up? If yes, then perhaps some light exercise would be in order - nothing too heavy, but just enough to help him/her calm down. How are you? Are you stressed? Relax, and go with the flow - animals are super sensitive to your mood. Give your pet some last minute grooming - just touch-ups. If you are outdoors, how is the wind? Is it too strong? Is the sun too bright? Remember, overcast is much better for exposure. Make sure that your pet is far enough away from your background so as to not cast any shadows.
Shooting - One of the most important things to remember is to get down on your pet's level, as much as possible. A shot from above doesn't portray intimacy. In addition, when you are at your pet's level, it's easier for you to empathize with it. If you've never crawled around on the ground before, you might feel a bit foolish, but trust me, it makes all the difference in the world. Make sure that you and your handler work with each other - you have got to be in charge, but also try to be flexible - you have a lot of variables that
you are managing.

It’s easily one of the world’s favorite foods. No matter where you are, someone you know is bound to suggest, “Hey, let’s do Chinese.” For decades, Chinese food meant one thing – Cantonese cuisine. It was the style of Chinese cooking with which most of the world was familiar – the appetizers and roasted meats and delicate sauces that blend vegetables and spices in a perfect marriage of flavors. But Chinese food is far more than just the Cantonese cuisine. There are four major styles of cooking across China, and several more subdivisions to divide them even further.
Cantonese is the most well-known and popular of the Chinese regional cuisine styles. Cantonese chefs specialize in delicate sauces and roasted meats, in steamed and stir-fried dishes with vegetables that are as carefully chosen for appearance and appeal to the eye as to the palate. Steamed rice is a staple of Cantonese cuisine, and is the base of most meals. Every vegetable is sliced to best show off its color and shape, even in a stir-fry or sauce. One of the more enduring and widely enjoyed traditions of Cantonese cooking is ‘dim sum’ – ‘little hearts’. In many cities, both in China and in other countries around the world, you’ll find little dim sum shops tucked beneath stairways and in storefront shops. They serve tea and the delicious savory and sweet little dim sum pastries to businessmen and afternoon shoppers.
Szechwan cuisine has grown in popularity over the last few decades. Most famous for searingly spicy foods like Kung Pao Chicken and Double Cooked Spicy Pork, Szechwan cuisine is a distinct style of cooking that is native to the landlocked mountainous center of China. The pungent flavors of ginger, fermented soybean, onions and garlic characterize much Szechwan cuisine, but there are also more subtle dishes that rely on the interweaving of texture and flavor. The typical cooking methods include frying, frying without oil, pickling and braising.
Hunan cuisine is the most well known of the several regional Chinese cuisine styles from Zheijiang region of China. It is characterized by thick, rich sauces and complex pungent flavors. Typical ingredients include scallions, chili and pepper. A popular favorite dish in the Hunan style is Pepper Chicken, with small chunks of succulent chicken quick-fried with black pepper and onions.
Shangdong cuisine is characterized by its emphasis on fresh ingredients in combinations that emphasize the flavor, aroma, color and texture of each ingredient. The Shangdong regional cuisine is known for delicate flavor combinations that are surprisingly pungent. Garlic and scallions are frequent ingredients, as are seafood, fresh vegetables and shoots. The soups are either thin and clear with a light flavor, or thick and pungent, rich with cream and spices. One of the most famous dishes from the Shangdong area, Bird’s Nest Soup, is typically served at major affairs of state.
While these are four of the main styles of Chinese regional cuisine, there are a number of others worthy of note. Fujian and Jiangsu Cuisine both focus on seafood and shellfish, accompanied by fresh vegetables. Fujian cuisine blends sweet, sour, savory and salt flavors in magical combinations. Jiangsu cuisine is light, fresh and sweet, and is characterized by its elegant presentation. More than any other style of Chinese regional cuisine, it emphasizes appearance as an important part of the appeal of a meal.
China is a complex country, with many smaller nationalities and regions within its borders. Most have typical styles of cooking that are starkly different than those of other regions around them. It is, however, a nation whose love affair with food has produced some of the most complex, rich, delicate and delicious dishes ever created.

Gardening is a wonderful pastime that the whole family can enjoy. In addition, gardening has become an increasingly popular hobby for people of all ages. Currently, studies show that in the UK, eight of ten households take part in some type of home gardening endeavor. Based on these statistics, gardening is one of the most popular outdoor recreational activities in the nation.
Typically, when people start planting their garden, they start with flowers. In addition, most people will pursue planting roses. The novice gardener does not realize that roses usually take the most time and effort as compared to other flowers. With such an enormous array of flowers to choose from, it is best for the novice to start of with easy care plants and flowers.
Vegetable gardens have become quite popular too. A vegetable garden can bring a sense of pride and accomplishment when you place those fresh vegetables on your dinner table. The list of vegetable plants is endless, therefore when planning your vegetable garden choose the right vegetable for your growing climate. For instance, cool weather crops would be green beans and cucumbers.Many gardeners will consider planting fruits as well. In a warm climate, you could plant melons, and trees such as apple and pear. A berry garden is also fun, planting strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries. These types of berry gardens are easy to care for and take less space than a traditional vegetable garden.
Herbs are another favorite for the home garden. If you have limited space, you can grow your herbs indoors in a sunny window. The most often used herbs for cooking are basil, thyme, oregano, parsley, and cilantro. These herbs are easy to grow too.

As mentioned earlier, gardening can be fun and educational for the whole family. In addition, what a delight to see the flowers bloom and harvest the vegetables. However, as with anything else, to be a successful home gardener takes work. Plants need to be weeded and watered. Do not get discouraged if the flowers are not as brilliant as expected or the beans did not do so well. Research the plant in question and then try again next planting season, eventually you will have a wonderful garden.
